Samhain Blessings

I don’t like this modern take on Hallowe’en. All the horror and fright and nastiness. It’s not a time for scariness. It’s not a time for the bloody and revolting. It is not a time of which to make vulgar fun.

It is, to me, a very spiritual time of year, when the souls of our loved ones, and ancestors, and all who have gone before us, are to be honoured, respected and remembered. It is a celebration of their lives and legacies.

And so, I put bright, fresh flowers on my altar (thank you, garden, for still offering up some blooms!) and I spent some quiet time thinking about my loved ones who are now in spirit freedom, and remembering how they enriched my life. I thought about my animal companions, too, and I am pretty sure my darling Flora Bijou Mybug was close by.

And then, I made some soul cakes and lit a candle for peace.

That’s how this day should be marked. Call me a boring old spoilsport but I’m sticking to my guns on this.

    1. I prefer my version of Hallowe’en to the commercial horror-fest it has become, KJ!

Happy to have comments. Pleasant and amusing ones, obviously. From real people. Decent, nice and kind people. Thanks!
