It’s Oh So Quiet…

All day rain today. Nell the Poo and I got very wet whilst out on our walk, which just about made it to 45 minutes in length before we both got a bit fed up and headed back to the car. I was wearing my recently acquired long length wax jacket and Nell was wearing her red coat. I left Nell to steam in the car whilst I popped into B & M to purchase three sacks of cat litter, some batteries, some matches and some fire lighters. There were no fire lighters, so I bought Nell a new rope toy instead, which is more than she deserves AND will be rubbish at lighting a fire.

Back home, I did a bit of writing, including a letter to my first cousin once removed. We’ve been corresponding via good old fashioned letters for over a year now and it’s been a delight. It’s sad that letter writing is going out of fashion. It always makes me feel a bit Jane Austen when I put pen to paper and I often think I ought to write to more people because receiving a letter in the post is such a nice thing.

After lunch, I decided it was too cold in the house so I lit the first fire of Autumn. Nell approved…

I even dug out the wood stove fan from under the kitchen sink and it’s circulating the warm air around the house very nicely. I do have to tidy up the kitchen sink cupboards though because it looks like a pair of raccoons have been having a party in there.

In other news, I have received an invitation to do some basic barista training on Thursday. Do I take up the offer? I don’t drink coffee and the smell sometimes makes me feel nauseous. Machines that hiss and produce a lot of pressurised steam cause me great startlement. I remember my Gran cooking beetroot in a pressure cooker which always put me on edge. Anyway, I’ve got a day left to decide.

All in all, it’s been a quiet day. No bad thing, eh?

  1. Raccoons!!?? Is that something else we have managed to export or is this purely metaphorically speaking?

    1. Noooooo…no raccoons here, KJ. It was the first animal that came to mind. Don’t ask me why, because I can’t explain. I think I’m just aware of the chaos they can cause when emptying rubbish bins. Am I right, or is that a figment of my imagination? I should have gone for our equivalent - the urban fox - but somehow the word ‘raccoon’ is funnier. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  2. It was funny! Yes they can make a mess and are really clever. Our neighbor installed sensor activated sprinklers to deterring the rascals from rolling up his lawn (literally). He discovered that they actually started playing with the sprinkler, on and off, on and off. They are awfully cute but not an animal you would want to get to close to
