Webby Woodshed
I decided to not mess about with log orders this Winter. Get them all in one hit, I thought. Don’t faff around with one load and then another load. Get them ALL in NOW whilst the weather is still decent and I don’t have to rush about getting the load put away when it is hailing/ snowing/ pelting down with freezing rain/ blowing a gale/ all these things. Therefore, I ordered a double load and then thought I ought to check the state of the woodshed to make sure I could actually get two cubic metres in there, especially as there is still a goodly amount of logs leftover from last year.
Reader(s), I have not been in the woodshed for a while and I think I can safely say I have never seen so many spider webs in my LIFE. They were thickly swathing the ceiling and the walls, they were sticky, they were full of spiders and if you walked into them by accident, in the semi-darkness for example, they are the sort of thing that would make you scream and scream, and try to turn and run, and become tangled in and cause mass hysteria in the space of a few seconds. The caves in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ had nothing on the Damson Cottage wood shed. However, I COULD see them so I went in armed with the garden broom and only felt slightly ikky. Me, coming out of the woodshed…
Cobwebs banished, I set about assessing the space. I thought, if I restack the current logs against THAT wall, I can wrestle out Lord M’s bicycle and that would free up a good area of floor space. I set about restacking logs and then became aware of a smell that suggested something might possibly have died in the woodshed. I didn’t find anything, thank goodness, and managed to extricate the bicycle and relocate it to the laundry which has plenty of space since we gave it a good sort out about a month or so ago. I lined the newly revealed wood shed floor with thick cardboard et voilá! I am ready for the double bubble delivery of logs on Thursday.
Mum is coming out of hospital tomorrow.

Call me crazy but to me there is something so very satisfying about getting the wood store filled to the brim. Even if my arms end up twice the length from when I started. Well done you for facing the cobwebs and get it ready for delivery

KJ, it’s not crazy at all! A full wood shed and well-stocked cupboards is a comforting and sensible way to ensure a cosy Winter. And, as you say, so very satisfying. I think I shall have gorilla arms by the end of Thursday after shifting two loads of logs. That’ll be my exercise for the day!
