Just a Dusting

We’ve had a sprinkling of snow. Not much, but my goodness it’s brought the cold with it. It was minus 10 this morning when I took this photo from the garden, the just passed Full Moon still hanging in the sky…

Isn’t that just beautiful? I was very taken with the colours in the sky.

Nell was less than taken with the accumulation of dangle berries (clumps of snow) on her paws, legs and muzzle, but then she did insist on going out for a walk. I ummed and aaahhed about taken her out because it was so cold, but by the time we set off it was only minus 5 degrees and I thought I’d keep an eye on her and come home sooner if she showed signs of distress.

Of course, she loved being out of the canal, rootling around and racing up and down in the snow, and we ended up walking for our usual hour. It was lovely being outside, enjoying how the snow changes the look of the countryside.

Such blue skies! The sun was very warm and I didn’t feel cold at all.

The canal was frozen over - little tree patterns dotted here and there…

Once home - only minus 2 now - I made a shepherd’s pie for Lord Malarkey’s dinner this evening, and some broccoli, pea and nutmeg soup for my lunches for the week. I cooked up a few of the frozen plums from the freezer, too, because they are nice on top of my oaty nutty breakfast. And now I’m settled in front of the fire, to do some reading and a bit of creative writing, and a bit of thinking about the year ahead.

I am studiously ignoring the world news. I can’t be doing with all the horrors  and crazy stuff out there.
I’m happy for the moment for my world to be small. And quiet, warm and peaceful.

  1. What a beautiful picture! Got to find pleasure in the beauty around us. As you can imagine I can’t face the news either. I’ll vote responsibly.

    1. My part of the world looked very beautiful today, KJ. It bothers me that there are so many people on the planet who are hell bent on destroying it.

Happy to have comments. Pleasant and amusing ones, obviously. From real people. Decent, nice and kind people. Thanks!
